Top Tips For Getting the Most Out Of Your Foundation

Foundation can look absolutely amazing, not-quite-right or really terrible! Here are some quick tips to make sure you achieve the most flawless base possible!

1. PREP YOUR SKIN

Your makeup can't be a 10 if your skin is a 2! Make sure your face is clean, exfoliated, and moisturised before applying foundation. Use your 3-in-1 Cleanser and Daytime Moisturiser to tick these boxes. If you are applying foundation after skincare treatments, make sure it has had time to sink in. Also, make sure you remove your makeup (& the day's grime) every night so your skin is clean for the next day. The Melt Away Cleansing Balm is perfect for this.

2. CHOOSE THE RIGHT SHADE

Choosing a shade that is too light or too dark can make it very obvious you're wearing foundation and look unnatural. To find your perfect shade, apply a swatch on your cheek near your jawline. Your best shade is the one that best matches your skin colour and doesn't stand out.

3. CHOOSE THE RIGHT TONE

Just like choosing the right shade is important, choosing the right TONE is just as important. Determining whether your have cool, neutral or warm undertones can be done a few ways. Look at the veins on the underside of your wrist. If they are purple/blue, you are cool toned. If they are green/olive you are warm. If you can't really tell you are probably neutral. The way you can can be a telltale sign too. If your burn easily you are likely cool toned. If you tan easily/don't burn easily you are likely warm toned.

4. DON'T APPLY TOO MUCH

Start with a small amount and apply over the face, focussing on areas of concern. You may not even need to apply it to your whole face! If you desire more coverage, apply another layer to build it up. Foundation shouldn't look like a mask - you should still be able to see the skin texture so make sure you are buffing lightly or stippling (patting)

5. APPLY PRIMER BEFORE FOUNDATION

With all the products on the market today its easy to feel like “primer” is something makeup companies made up to get more $ out of your pocket.

However, primer is one of the major unsung heroes of flawless makeup application! Primers are made to help your foundation last longer, but even more importantly primers also help your products to go on smoother. Think of priming your walls with gib stop and primer before you paint them; it creates an even texture & even coloured surface to apply your 'paint' so your paint looks better and goes on smoother.

5. SET YOUR FOUNDATION

Although MakeSense Foundations last all day anyway, it doesn't hurt to set them using a powder. Applying a light dusting of Translucent Powder absorbs excess oil and shine and creates a photo finish that helps your makeup last all day.

6. FIND THE BEST TOOL FOR YOU

Whether you like to apply your foundation with a brush or your fingers, do what works for YOU. I prefer to use brushes to stipple on my foundation as they don't soak up as much product as a sponge does. I also press the brush into my skin and slightly down to "groom" the hair on my face down. Using your fingers to press the foundation in after it's blended will also give a natural finish.

7. CHOOSE YOUR FINISH

If you like a more matte look, apply your foundation and set with a translucent powder. If you prefer a more dewy look, add in half a pump of Pearlizer to create that glowy, lit-from-within look.

I hope you find these tips helpful!!!
